Both areas share the same lighting setting, so you can't configure them independently, unfortunately. In this department, the Rival 100 carries SteelSeries’s own SDNS-3059-SS optical sensor—and, wow, does it perform great. In addition to comfort and durability, the final determining factor in purchasing a gaming mouse lies in the performance of the sensor. That said, they're not nearly as comfortable as the rubber grips on the Razer Mamba TE or Diamondback mice. Features beyond color, like illumination motions and real-time game actions via GameSense can all be controlled through the powerful, SteelSeries Engine software suite.

With that in mind, I highly recommend both of these mice, giving them both a 10, they were both money well spent in my opinion.
